Driver and passenger of car that killed pedestrian in Sarajevo arrested

SARAJevo, (Patria) - Sarajevo police have released details of last night's accident in which one person was killed and another injured after being hit by a car that fled the scene in Smaje Šikala street in Sarajevo. 

"From a motor vehicle of unknown make and registration plates, driven by an unknown driver, pedestrians M.H., born in 1965 in Čajniče, residing in Sarajevo, and U.Dž., born in 1966 in Rogatica, residing in Sarajevo, were hit and knocked to the ground. The unknown driver then fled the scene of the traffic accident with the vehicle without stopping or providing assistance to the injured persons. In this traffic accident, pedestrian M.H. died on the spot from the injuries sustained, as confirmed by the doctors of the Sarajevo Canton Emergency Medical Service. The body of the deceased was transported by KJKP “Pokop” vehicle to the “Bare” morgue, where an autopsy will be performed under the prosecutor's order. Pedestrian U.Dž. sustained minor physical injuries, and medical assistance was provided by the Emergency Medical Service team, then at the “Prim. dr. Abdulah Nakaš” General Hospital in Sarajevo, after which he was sent home for treatment," the police announced. 

An investigation at the scene of the traffic accident was conducted by the duty prosecutor of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton, police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton Police Administration, and authorized court experts in traffic and mechanical engineering.

While working to shed light on the described criminal offense, police officers determined that the traffic accident was caused by driver A.S., born in 1987 in Sarajevo, where he resides, driving a passenger motor vehicle of the brand “VW Touareg”, registration plates K47-T-335. The said person was found on the same day at 9:05 PM along with person A.B., born in 1982 in Sarajevo, where he resides, who was in the passenger seat of the vehicle at the time of the traffic accident.

Driver A.S. was deprived of liberty, due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that he committed criminal offenses under Article 336, paragraph 4 (Serious offenses against public traffic safety) and Article 337 (Failure to provide assistance to a person injured in a traffic accident), in conjunction with Article 332, paragraph 1 (Endangering public traffic) of the Criminal Code of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while passenger A.B. was deprived of liberty, due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that he committed criminal offenses under Article 337 (Failure to provide assistance to a person injured in a traffic accident) and Article 33 (Aiding the perpetrator after the commission of a criminal offense) of the Criminal Code of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Police officers of the Traffic Investigations Department, under the supervision of the acting prosecutor of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton, continue to work on documenting this traffic accident.
