Canton Sarajevo Assembly not convening because there is no majority to adopt the work report of the Canton Sarajevo Prosecutor's Office

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The last session of the Assembly of Canton Sarajevo was held on May 7, and the Report on the work of the Canton Sarajevo Prosecutor's Office for 2017 was removed from the agenda. The chief prosecutor of the Canton Sarajevo Prosecutor's Office, Dalida Burzić, who was supposed to answer questions from deputies, did not appear at the session. In a letter she sent to the Canton Sarajevo Assembly, she stated that she refused to come to the session because of the address by Muriz Memić, the father of the murdered young man Dženan Memić, who spoke about a case that has not been concluded.

The deputies' discussion on the (in)action of the Canton Sarajevo Prosecutor's Office was interrupted, and the Report was withdrawn by the Minister of Justice and Administration, Mario Nenadić (SBB). It was agreed that Chief Prosecutor Burzić would attend the next session and answer all questions from the deputies.

Although the Collegium was held on June 6, the Patria agency learns that no agreement was reached on holding a new session. Unofficially, it was supposed to be held on June 25. However, according to information we have received, the real reason for not scheduling the session is that there is no assembly majority to support the Report on the work of the Canton Sarajevo Prosecutor's Office for 2017.

At the last session held on May 7, before the consideration of the Report of the Canton Sarajevo Prosecutor's Office, Muriz Memić, the father of the murdered young man Dženan Memić, addressed the deputies. The family's agony to learn the truth about the young man's death has lasted for more than two years. The Canton Sarajevo Prosecutor's Office initially treated the case as a traffic accident, then as a murder by an unknown perpetrator, only to reclassify the act as a traffic accident again.

Ljubo and Bekrija Seferović have been charged for this and are being tried at the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo. The trial is nearing its end, and new details are once again undermining the theory that Memić died in a traffic accident.

As many as nine prosecutors worked on this case, and two have already left the Canton Sarajevo Prosecutor's Office, while a criminal complaint for abuse of official position and influence on witnesses has been filed against one prosecutor.

Memić asked the deputies in the Canton Sarajevo Assembly to help him, and the first step is not to support the Report of the Canton Sarajevo Prosecutor's Office. From the assembly podium, he demanded that the murderer of his son be found and prosecuted, and that the farce of the trial for a traffic accident be stopped.
