KS Assembly on May 30: Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office Report for 2022 on the Agenda

(Patria) - The KS Assembly has been scheduled for May 30, and the Draft Declaration for the preservation of sanitary protection zones and the quality of drinking water from the "Sarajevsko polje" source, submitted by DF representative Marijela Margeta Hašimbegović, is also on the agenda.

"Based on the importance of preserving drinking water and sanitary protection zones of the "Sarajevsko polje" source for the entire Sarajevo Canton, due to the public's extreme concern for preserving the quality of source protection, and thus the future of water supply in Sarajevo Canton, the Sarajevo Canton Assembly expresses its position on the necessity of preserving the boundaries of sanitary protection zones of the drinking water source in Sarajevsko polje with measures determined by the Decision on the Protection of the "Sarajevsko polje" Source upon its entry into force in 1987, and in its future actions commits to preserving the existing protection measures within the same spatial scope without softening the degree of protection over the existing sanitary protection zones of the drinking water source in any part thereof. Furthermore, the Sarajevo Canton Assembly expresses its position that the scope of stricter protection should be expanded as soon as possible to additional areas that currently or potentially threaten the drinking water sources in Sarajevsko polje through mass commercial construction, specifically in the areas of Igman and Bjelašnica mountains. When protecting the "Sarajevsko polje" water protection zone, one should be guided by the best water protection practices of countries in our region and the European Union. The steps taken should, in every segment and in their entirety, reflect the spirit of the times in terms of the latest scientific findings on the harmfulness of certain human activities to the quality and quantity of water in sources, and in terms of the urgency and seriousness of the impending climate crisis that causes increasingly frequent droughts in our region," the declaration states.

Also on the agenda are several reports on the work of cantonal public enterprises for the years 2019, 2020, and 2021.

Additionally, the Report on the Work of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton for 2022 is on the agenda. As stated in the opinion of the Ministry of Justice and Administration, the KS Prosecutor's Office has confirmed continuity of action in the reporting period towards improving the efficiency and quality of work.
