(Patria) - Almost 60 countries have been invited to join the Peace Committee for Gaza, which will govern the Gaza Strip, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported, TASS reports.
According to the report, most of those invited responded "cautiously" due to potential geopolitical risks.
"The Peace Committee is an international organization that seeks to promote stability, restore
reliable and legitimate governance, and ensure lasting peace in areas affected or threatened by
conflict," WSJ quotes from the Peace Committee's charter.
The report states that US President Donald Trump, as chairman, has the exclusive right of veto over the committee's decisions.
According to WSJ, the permanent membership fee is one billion dollars annually. Without it, membership is limited to three years. It is unclear how these funds will be used.
Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters yesterday that President Vladimir Putin received an invitation to join the Peace Committee for Gaza and that this possibility is being explored.
