Man jumps from balcony as strong earthquake hits Istanbul

(Patria) - A strong earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale hit the Turkish city of Istanbul today.

In the Istanbul district of Atasehir, a camera recorded the moment a man jumped from a building's balcony onto a car during the earthquake.

After landing on the car roof, the man got down and hopped on one leg, apparently because he had injured the other.

According to information published on the website of the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority, the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Sea of Marmara.

The earthquake, recorded at a depth of nearly seven kilometers, caused panic among citizens and was also felt in surrounding cities.

After the tremors, citizens left their apartments and workplaces and went out into the streets and parks for fear of further ground shaking.

Subsequent earthquakes of lesser magnitude were also recorded.

According to initial data from Turkish authorities on the ground, no damage was reported to roads, airports, railways, or metros.

Citizens have been warned not to enter buildings that are damaged or suspected of being damaged due to the earthquake, to avoid unnecessary use of vehicles, and to refrain from using mobile networks except in emergencies.
