Skaka at Prayer Breakfast with Trump: US Remains an International Partner and Ally of BiH

(Patria) - The United States of America remains the most important international partner and ally for Bosnia and Herzegovina and especially for the City of Sarajevo. In the year marking the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement and the 25th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, this will be further confirmed, and the alliance strengthened, stated Abdulah Skaka, Mayor of Sarajevo, after attending the 68th traditional Prayer Breakfast with US President Donald Trump.

Mayor Skaka is visiting Washington at the invitation of the US Congress and, together with leaders, officials, entrepreneurs, human rights activists, and influential figures from around the world, participated in one of the largest and most important diplomatic events of the year in the US. Among this year's attendees were several former and current presidents, former Prime Minister of Kosovo Ramush Haradinaj, as well as other high-ranking US officials such as Vice President Mike Pence or Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives.

"This is a major event, not just in the US, and it is important that the City of Sarajevo, as the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a part of it. Sarajevo must be present on the international stage. It is our obligation to promote Sarajevo, which has a specific symbolism and weight in global terms due to its centuries-old tradition of close coexistence of people of different faiths and identities, which is why it was the target of the longest siege in human history, at the highest level, and that is why, among other things, we are part of this great forum," said Mayor Skaka.

This year, more than 3,000 people from around the world attended the series of events organized throughout the week in honor of Trump's Prayer Breakfast.

"We have had a series of very important contacts and discussions in Washington, which will be discussed further in the coming period. However, it should be noted that we are already concluding a historic project of cooperation with the US this year, after which we will officially declare Sarajevo mine-free. This will be a great impetus for the development of tourism and the arrival of foreign investments. Of course, we will continue in the future with an even stronger pace. We have full support and a clear common interest," stated Mayor Skaka.
