North Korea conducted a 'tactical nuclear strike' drill

North Korea conducted a simulated 'tactical nuclear strike' drill involving two long-range cruise missiles, state media reported on Sunday, while leader Kim Jong Un inspected shipyards and munitions factories, Reuters reported.

The KCNA news agency said the drill was carried out early Saturday to
"warn enemies" that the country would be ready in case of nuclear war.

Two cruise missiles carrying dummy nuclear warheads were fired towards the West Sea of the peninsula and flew 1,500 kilometers at a pre-set altitude of 150 meters. A separate statement said Kim visited the Pukjung Machine Complex, which produces ship engines, and a large munitions factory to emphasize the importance of strengthening Pyongyang's naval forces.

"He confirmed that the future plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea will set an important modernization of the complex and the direction of shipbuilding development," KCNA said in a statement. The statement did not specify the date of his visit.

The latest missile test followed closely after South Korea and the US's joint annual summer drills, known as 'Ulchi Freedom Shield', concluded on Thursday after eleven days, including air drills with B-1B bombers.
