(Patria) - The center of Ljubljana has been transformed into a large pedestrian zone - one of the largest in Europe. However, you can still drive through the city center in the Kavalir.
This is a free public transport option in the city center that is friendly to people and the environment.
The Kavalir is an electric vehicle that travels at a speed of 25 kilometers per hour and is designed to transport up to five people at a time.
It is most often used by the elderly, people with mobility issues, mothers with small children, as well as visitors from other countries.
Kavalir drivers will take you anywhere within the pedestrian zone in the city center completely free of charge from 6 AM to 10 PM every day, writes Punkufer.hr.
There are two different types of vehicles in the fleet - one open model intended for transporting people during the warmer part of the year, from April to the end of October, and another enclosed and heated model that operates year-round.
The Ljubljana Tourist Board, in cooperation with the city authorities and the public transport company (LPP), introduced the free use of these vehicles as part of measures for more environmentally friendly public transport in Ljubljana.
Their move was met with enthusiasm by the local population, as well as the European Commission, which awarded them two European Mobility Week awards.
