(Patria) - The administration of US President Donald Trump today imposed new sanctions on Iranian oil trade as part of its maximum pressure campaign.
"The sanctions target networks that allegedly transport and purchase billions of dollars worth of Iranian oil, some of which has been used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps - Quds Force (IRGC-QF), as well as those connected to a financial institution controlled by Hezbollah," wrote US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on platform X.

- While Iran had every opportunity to choose peace, its leaders have chosen extremism - Bessent said in a separate statement, announcing that the Treasury Department will continue to target Tehran's revenue sources and increase economic pressure.
Among those sanctioned is Iraqi-British businessman Salim Ahmed Said, who allegedly led a smuggling network by mixing Iranian oil with Iraqi crude oil to circumvent sanctions.
In addition, the State Department sanctioned seven senior officials and one entity associated with Al-Qard Al-Hassan (AQAH), a financial institution controlled by Hezbollah.
- These officials, through their leading roles, have facilitated Hezbollah's evasion of sanctions, enabling AQAH to conduct transactions worth millions of dollars - said State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce.
The Rewards for Justice program announced a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the disruption of Hezbollah's financial networks.
The sanctions followed a 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran, which erupted on June 13 when Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites.
Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks, while the US bombed three Iranian nuclear sites.
The conflict ended with a US-brokered ceasefire that took effect on June 24.
