United States imposes additional sanctions on Russia

(Patria) - The United States is imposing additional sanctions on Russia, which are also aimed at neighboring Belarus, to respond to the invasion of Ukraine by Putin's regime, the White House announced today.

''The US will take the necessary measures to weaken Russia's military power and its defense sector in the coming years. In addition, Russian airlines will be prevented from flying over US airspace, and the most important sources of wealth of the Russian Federation will be stopped. New sanctions will also include Belarus, given that Washington considers it responsible for enabling the invasion of Ukraine'', the White House announced.

The Ministry of Commerce has imposed strict export controls on Belarus to Russia, which came into effect on February 24, as a ''response to providing support to Russia in its attack on Ukraine''.

The aforementioned controls are intended to prevent the export of technological products and software in the defense, aviation, and maritime sectors from Belarus to Russia.

The US is continuously increasing sanctions on Moscow after President Vladimir Putin launched an invasion of Ukraine last Thursday. Belarus allowed Russian soldiers to use its territory as a starting point for the attack.

The Russian invasion has not yet managed to overthrow the Ukrainian government, but it has forced more than 870,000 people to flee to neighboring countries and has shaken the global economy as governments and companies around the world have decided to isolate Moscow.
