REMEMBERING SERGIO LANI: Ambassador Di Ruzza Visits Klas Company Sarajevo

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Italian Ambassador Marco Di Ruzza visited the Klas company and its production facilities as part of the commemoration of the fallen Italian Sergio Lani who lost his life after returning from delivering a donation to Klas.

In addition to the ambassador, Klas's distinguished guests included Sergio's parents, as well as Giancarlo Rovatti, who donated and delivered bread production equipment during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"The story of Sergio Lani, who tragically lost his life along with two other volunteers, Fabio Moreni and Guido Puletti, on May 29, 1993, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Gornji Vakuf while transporting humanitarian aid, and Giancarlo Rovatti's social engagement towards this country, are extraordinary examples of the solidarity movement that emerged in Italy during the war years in the former Yugoslavia, with the aim of helping the population affected by the conflict. They are symbols of friendship between our two countries, characterized by sincere feelings and concrete substance. The Klas company gladly cherishes the memory of this aid, which is still an integral part of its equipment and production lines today. It was truly emotional to remember Sergio together with his parents and in the presence of Mr. Rovatti during the visit to Klas, and I express my deep gratitude to Director Avdagić for this commendable initiative," stated Italian Ambassador Marco Di Ruzza.

The director of the Klas company, Madžid Avdagić, expressed his gratitude on this occasion for everything Italy did for this domestic company during the period 1992-1995, and particularly emphasized that the memory of the lost young lives will never be forgotten. The guests from Italy had the opportunity to learn about Klas's history through its 120 years of existence, as well as to taste delicious Klas pastries and traditional Bosnian cakes.

"We introduce every new generation of the Klas company to this extremely important story related to the donation from Italy and our bread equipment. Giancarlo Rovatti greatly helped our bakery during the war, not only with equipment but also with flour and other humanitarian supplies during that period. As long as the Klas company exists, the memory of these wonderful people who risked their lives to help the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina will also exist. We are immensely grateful to them for that," Avdagić stated.
