A Syrian rebel group has finally agreed to participate in peace talks in Kazakhstan, supported by Russia and Turkey, writes the British Guardian, reports Patria.
The rebels claim their goal is to exert pressure regarding the full implementation of the repeatedly violated ceasefire.
Rebel groups made this decision at meetings that are still ongoing in Ankara, and they are also working on forming a delegation that will differ from the one that participated in the peace talks in Geneva last year.
- The first item on the agenda is the issue of the ceasefire and its violation by the regime, said an official from the rebel group Free Syrian Army who wished to remain anonymous because the rebel groups have not yet appointed a spokesperson.
Another official, Zakaria Malahifji from the rebel group Fastaqim, says that most groups have decided to attend the talks. "The ceasefire, humanitarian issues such as aid deliveries, and the release of detainees will be discussed," the Guardian report states.
