Syrian army in a major offensive against ISIL, Deir ez-Zor on the verge of liberation

After the collapse in Iraq, the so-called Islamic State is on the verge of defeat in neighboring Syria as well, writes Patria agency.

The Syrian army launched an offensive against ISIL terrorists a few days ago, and the city of Deir ez-Zor is on the verge of liberation after two and a half years of occupation.

Members of the elite 104th Brigade of the Syrian Republican Guard, under the command of Issam Zahreddine, were surrounded for two and a half years and resisted the attacks of ISIL terrorists.

In the latest offensive, the Syrian army has come within ten kilometers of the 104th Brigade members, and it is only a matter of time before they meet.

According to some government estimates, about 300,000 civilians are in the besieged area of Deir ez-Zor.

In some parts of the city, people took to the streets to celebrate and support the Syrian army, which provoked the revolt of ISIL terrorists who opened fire on civilians, but there is no information about injuries.

The liberation of Deir ez-Zor does not mean the total destruction of ISIL, but it certainly means its significant weakening, especially since the city is close to the Iraqi border, which the terrorists used to cross from one country to another.
