Syrian government takes full control of Douma

DUMA, (Patria) - Syrian government forces have taken control of the city of Douma — the last stronghold of militants in Eastern Ghouta, announced the head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Warring Parties, Yuri Yevtushenko.

- A significant event in the history of Syria took place today. The state flag is flying in Douma, which means the return of control over this place, and thus over Eastern Ghouta as a whole - said General Yevtushenko, as reported by world media.

Russian military police have entered Douma.

- Russians are guarantors of maintaining order in the city - announced the Ministry of Defense of Russia, reported by the Russian agency Sputnik.

With the help of the Reconciliation Center, the evacuation of remaining members of the terrorist group "Jaish al-Islam" from Douma continues.

According to the first deputy head of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff, Vladimir Poznihir, militants have surrendered more than 400 units of weapons, including heavy machine guns, sniper rifles, and pistols.

More than 165,000 people have left Douma, and 250 hostages have been freed.
