Syrian man searching for daughter escapes asylum center

ZAGREB, (Patria) - Syrian national G. W., who is allegedly searching for his daughter in Croatia, has escaped from the asylum center in Zagreb's Porin hotel, reports 24sata.hr.

The escape occurred after new information emerged regarding the Syrian national and his five-year-old daughter, whom he allegedly lost when police apprehended him near Plitvice Lakes and returned him to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Roll calls are held every evening at 10 PM and in the morning at 6 AM at the asylum center. He reportedly did not appear for the roll calls on Thursday morning and evening, nor this morning. It is presumed he disappeared on Wednesday night, and all traces of him have been lost. If the police find the missing Syrian national, he faces deportation, as his escape from the asylum center has revoked his right to seek asylum.

He claims that Croatian police separated him from his daughter when they were apprehended near Plitvice Lakes after crossing the Croatian border from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As reported by RTL, the Syrian national was registered in Bosnia and Herzegovina a month ago, without the child. However, the BiH Service for Foreigners' Affairs does not rule out the possibility that the child was registered under a different name, with another group of migrants.

- The child's father, W. G., along with 19 other individuals, expressed their intention to apply for asylum at TC Istočno Sarajevo on August 30, 2018. There was no female child in the mentioned group. We do not exclude the possibility that the child was registered under a different name, with another group of migrants - responded the BiH Service for Foreigners' Affairs.

RTL attempted to contact the Syrian national again, but he stated that due to his poor psychological condition, he did not wish to appear on camera.
