Sirens in Poland, fighter jets on alert: Russian drones flying near our border

(Patria) - Polish and allied air forces were deployed in a "preventive operation" in Polish airspace on Saturday due to the threat of drone attacks in neighboring areas of Ukraine, and the airport in the eastern Polish city of Lublin was closed, authorities said.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also spoke out.

"Due to the threat of Russian drones operating over Ukraine near the Polish border, aircraft - Polish and allied - have been preventively engaged in Polish airspace. Ground-based air defense systems have been put on the highest state of alert," Tusk said.

The alert followed several Russian drones entering Polish airspace on Wednesday, prompting NATO to send fighter jets to shoot them down, highlighting long-standing concerns about the possible spread of Russia's war in Ukraine, which has been ongoing for more than three years.

Residents of several districts in the Lublin region received an urgent warning from the Government Security Center (RCB) due to a possible airborne threat.

"There is a danger of an air attack. Be especially careful and follow the instructions of the services. Expect further announcements," the warning sent to residents of several districts stated.

According to the latest information, warning sirens sounded in the city of Świdnik, further confirming the seriousness of the situation.

This security measure comes at a time when Russia and Belarus are conducting the Zapad-2025 military exercises, and increased military activity has been observed on the Russian and Belarusian borders.

This preventive step by Polish authorities comes as a direct response to the recent incident when Russian drones violated Polish airspace, causing serious concern for the security of the NATO member state bordering Ukraine.
