Sirens sounded danger in Israel: Houthi missile from Yemen temporarily closed airport, debris from interceptor caused fire

(Patria) - Israel's "Ben Gurion" Airport was briefly closed after a missile attack from Yemen, local media report.

According to the Israeli daily "Yedioth Ahronoth", operations at "Ben Gurion" Airport were temporarily suspended after a missile was detected.

The Israeli military announced that on Wednesday they intercepted a missile fired from Yemen after sirens sounded in the center of the country, reports Times of Israel.

"Ben Gurion" Airport was reopened after the interception, "Yedioth Ahronoth" added.

Israeli Channel 12 reported that air raid sirens sounded in Tel Aviv, central Israel, and western Jerusalem for the first time since the assassination of Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Ghalib Al-Rahawi.

Some portals also reported that shrapnel from an Israeli interceptor missile fell near Tel Aviv, causing a fire, after intercepting a missile launched from Yemen.

The Houthi group in Yemen has intensified attacks in recent days after 12 high-ranking officials, including the prime minister and nine other ministers, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Yemeni capital, Sana'a.
The Houthis have vowed to continue missile and drone attacks on Israeli targets in support of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Since November 2023, the Houthis have launched missile and drone attacks on Israeli targets and targeted commercial shipping in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the Arabian Sea in support of Palestinians in Gaza, where more than 63,600 people have been killed in Israel's genocidal war.
