SIPA arrests three people in Goražde for war crimes

Acting on orders from the BiH Prosecutor's Office, police officers of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) this morning (17.11.2015) arrested three individuals in the Sarajevo and Goražde areas in connection with war crimes, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

Individuals identified by initials E.H. (1958) and I.M. (1942) were arrested due to grounds for suspicion that they committed the criminal offense of "War Crimes against Civilian Population" under Article 173 of the BiH Criminal Code, in the area of Goražde municipality during 1992 and 1993, in conjunction with Article 180 of the BiH Criminal Code.

Individual identified by initials A.S. (1960) was arrested due to grounds for suspicion that they committed the criminal offense of "War Crimes against Civilian Population" under Article 173 of the BiH Criminal Code and the criminal offense of "War Crimes against Prisoners of War" under Article 175 of the BiH Criminal Code, in the areas of Višegrad, Rudo, and Goražde municipalities during 1992 and 1993.

Among those arrested are a current high-ranking police official and a former high-ranking official of the Army of BiH.

The arrested individuals have been taken to SIPA's official premises, where they are undergoing criminal processing, after which they will be handed over to the BiH Prosecutor's Office for further proceedings.

SIPA and the BiH Prosecutor's Office will continue to work intensively to uncover and prosecute as many individuals as possible suspected of war crimes and violations of international humanitarian law.         

The arrested individual is the Police Commissioner of the Bosansko-podrinjski Canton MUP, Ešef Hurić.
