SIPA arrests several individuals in operation against illegal trade of excise goods

In the areas of Banja Luka and Tuzla, dozens of SIPA police officers are conducting searches and arrests of suspects. A prosecutor from the BiH Prosecutor's Office is on the ground in Banja Luka with their team, coordinating the activities of police officers, it was announced from the BiH Prosecutor's Office.

- Since the early morning hours, in the areas of Banja Luka and Tuzla, at a total of 3 locations, activities of arresting suspects and searching facilities and premises used by the suspects are being carried out.

The investigation concerns individuals suspected of organized crime offenses, under Article 250 of the Criminal Code of BiH, in connection with the offense of illegal trade of excise goods under Article 210a of the Criminal Code of BiH.

Through thorough investigation, evidence has been gathered that the suspects, for a longer period, as an organized criminal group, have been engaged in the illegal trade of a large quantity of excise goods - cigarettes, thereby causing significant damage to the BiH budget and enabling themselves to gain illegal property benefits.

Following their arrest, the acting prosecutor will question the suspects, after which a decision will be made on further actions in accordance with the law.

The BiH Prosecutor's Office and SIPA are undertaking intensive activities in the fight against the illegal trade of excise goods, which causes great damage to the BiH budget, and thus to all citizens of our country - stated the BiH Prosecutor's Office.
