SIPA arrests one person for fighting in Syria

Acting on a warrant from the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, police officers of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) and police officers of the Zenica-Doboj Canton Ministry of Interior today located and in the area of Maglaj municipality deprived of liberty one person, reports the Patria agency.

The said person was arrested by SIPA police officers within the operational action „Damascus“ in 2014 for fighting in Syria and belonging to a terrorist group.

After the conducted procedure, the said person was finally convicted, and since he was unavailable to the judicial authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued a warrant for him.

- Although it is not within SIPA's original jurisdiction, and taking into account that the fight against terrorism is a priority in our work, in the past period SIPA, in cooperation with the Zenica-Doboj Canton Ministry of Interior, undertook a series of operational measures and actions that resulted in locating and finding the said person. In doing so, we especially emphasize the very successful cooperation with EUFOR and take this opportunity to thank them for their support - SIPA stated.  

The deprived person was handed over to the competent institution for the enforcement of criminal sanctions in Zenica.
