A long-term investigation by police officers of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) and other partner agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina resulted in the pronouncement of a second-instance verdict by the Appellate Division of the Court of BiH in the case of Zijad Turković and others, by which five defendants in this case were today sentenced to a total of 95 years in prison, SIPA announced, as reported by the Patria news agency.
- It is particularly important to emphasize that the sentences imposed on the organizer Zijad Turković and his associate Milenko Lakić are the highest prison sentences for criminal acts of organized crime so far, which is a message to citizens that the rule of law lives in BiH, and that law enforcement agencies are efficiently doing their job.
SIPA management expresses satisfaction with the successfully implemented operation "Cargo", the case of Zijad Turković and others, in which SIPA and the Prosecutor's Office of BiH managed to prove the existence of a criminal organization that committed the most serious criminal acts in the territory of BiH.
During the work on this case, all of SIPA's capacities were engaged, thereby dealing a strong blow to organized crime in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond, and shedding light on the monstrous criminal acts committed by members of this criminal group, SIPA announced.
