Union warns: Organizing pre-election rallies is prohibited in secondary and primary schools

The pre-election campaign for the Local Elections on October 2nd is underway in Bosnia and Herzegovina. More than three million citizens have the right to vote. 

The "Pod lupom" Coalition, which monitors the legality of the pre-election campaign in the country, has already warned that some political parties are violating the Election Law of BiH in their pre-election campaign.

The president of the Education Union of Sarajevo Canton, Saudin Sivro, told Patria that it is a violation of the law if some political parties hold pre-election rallies in primary and secondary schools.

The Law on Primary Education and the Law on Secondary Education in Sarajevo Canton clearly stipulate that political organizing and activities in schools are prohibited. The Law on Primary Education does not prescribe fines for non-compliance with this law, while the Law on Secondary Education provides for a fine of 1,000 to 4,000 KM for the school for political activities in secondary schools.

The act of voting in schools is permitted.

Sivro confirmed to Patria that a law on education is currently being drafted that will prohibit political activities of education workers.
