(Patria) - North Korea fired a ballistic missile eastward, the South Korean military announced this morning, without providing further details about the launch, Reuters reported.
Earlier, the South Korean news agency Yonhap announced that the launch was towards the sea off the east coast of North Korea. North Korea last launched ballistic missiles on May 8, when it fired several short-range missiles from its east coast.
North Korea rejects the international ban on the development of ballistic missiles, which is supported by the United States and South Korea, among others.
The launch comes ahead of the visit to South Korea next week by leaders attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Forum, including US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
North Korea unveiled its latest intercontinental ballistic missile this month at a parade attended by the Chinese Premier.
