Six years since the murder: The Bordeaux team plays today's derby for Vedran Puljić

Vedran Puljić was killed on October 4, 2009, by a firearm during mass riots that broke out in the afternoon hours near the Pecara stadium, just before the start of the match between NK Široki Brijeg and FK Sarajevo, reports the Patria news agency.

It was later established that Oliver Knezović from Široki Brijeg was suspected of Vedran's murder, and he surrendered to the police. Knezović was held in custody, where he confessed to shooting at the fans of the Bordeaux team, but shortly after, he escaped. Even six years later, Vedran Puljić's murderer has not been punished for his crime.

"As a lawyer and legalist, I consider it shameful and unacceptable that a full six years have passed since the murder of the late Vedran, and that to this day, the person who committed this serious criminal offense has not been prosecuted and convicted. I sincerely hope that this will be done as soon as possible and that the truth about the murder of the late Vedran will finally be fully clarified," said Hajrudin Kapetanović, a member of the Management Board of the Sarajevo Football Club.

On the anniversary of Vedran Puljić's murder, the 106th city derby between Željezničar and Sarajevo will also be played. Džemal Berberović, a player who emerged from the Sarajevo Football Club, representing the first team, emphasized that the players from Koševo will run onto the pitch of the "Grbavica" stadium with additional motivation.

"Vedran Puljić lost his life because of our club, as he traveled to cheer us on from the stands. Vedran Puljić's name will echo through the stadium, and we play every match for the fans, we fight to repay them for their support, and indeed, every individual in today's match will give their all, because we have an additional motive," Berberović stated, as reported by sport.ba.
