Senator Schumer to Host Musk, Zuckerberg, and Others at AI Forum

(Patria) - U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer will host technology leaders, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai at an artificial intelligence forum on September 13, the senator's office announced.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will also appear at the closed-door forum, according to Schumer's office, which added that the forum will be bipartisan, Reuters reported.

Several governments are considering how to mitigate the dangers of this technology, which has seen a boom in investment and popularity in recent months following the release of OpenAI's ChatGPT.

Schumer hinted in June that he would host the forum to "lay new groundwork for artificial intelligence policy."

"We need the best of the best to sit at the table: top AI developers, executives, scientists, advocates, community leaders, workers, national security experts – all in one room, doing years of work in a matter of months," Schumer said.

Regulators around the world are trying to piece together rules governing the use of generative artificial intelligence, which can create text and generate images whose artificial origin is virtually invisible.

Its impact is compared to the advent of the internet. The risks of artificial intelligence for national security and the economy must be addressed, U.S. President Joe Biden said in June, adding that he would seek expert advice.

Biden also recently discussed the issue of artificial intelligence with other world leaders, including British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, whose government will host the first global AI safety summit later this year.
