Senator John McCain Buried with Full State Honors

WASHINGTON, (Patria) - Senator John McCain was buried after a service at Washington National Cathedral in the state of Maryland, reports Voice of America.

In addition to family, former presidents, colleagues from Congress, foreign officials, and many friends attended the religious service and burial.

Former Democratic President Barack Obama criticized the current American political scene as "treacherous and narrow-minded" in a speech at the memorial service for Senator John McCain at the National Cathedral in Washington.

Former Republican President George W. Bush also gave a farewell speech, saying of McCain that he was "honorable and always recognized that his rivals were still patriots and human beings.".

Bush and Obama spoke at the memorial service at the request of Senator McCain, who planned the ceremony while suffering from brain cancer.

Former presidents were among hundreds of family members, friends, and former colleagues in Congress who gathered at the National Cathedral, where McCain's casket was displayed.

Dozens of current and former US officials, members of Congress, and foreign diplomats also attended the service.

McCain's casket was carried by, among others, actor Warren Beatty, former US Vice President Joe Biden, former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Russian dissident Vladimir Kara-Murza.

Senator John McCain's remains were ceremonially placed in the Capitol building on Friday, and before the memorial service on Saturday at the National Cathedral, the funeral procession stopped at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
