Senator John McCain to get a square or street in Sarajevo!

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The City Council of Sarajevo today adopted an initiative proposed by Mayor Abdulah Skaka to name a square or street in the capital of BiH after the recently deceased American Senator John McCain.

- Senator John McCain was a great friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In difficult times, he called things by their proper name and sought just solutions for our country. In this way, Sarajevo and BiH will ensure lasting remembrance of his historic role in building and nurturing brotherly and friendly relations between the peoples of BiH and the United States of America - Skaka explained.

Mayor Skaka informed the council members today that during his visit to Washington, he also visited the grave of the influential American senator at the Naval Academy Cemetery in Annapolis, where he symbolically laid the flags of BiH and the City of Sarajevo.

- We greatly appreciate his contribution to the great assistance that the American people provided to the people in BiH - stated the mayor, reminding that McCain visited the capital of BiH several times during his political career and built a special connection with this country.

The mayor recalled that during his visit to Washington, he signed a significant memorandum of cooperation with the Marshall Legacy Institute, which opens doors for the implementation of projects aimed at completely clearing Sarajevo of mines by 2020.

- We also held a series of important discussions in the US Congress, the State Department, and strengthened Sarajevo's ties with friends in the US, and opened up the possibility for deeper cooperation - he added.
