Senator Cardin: James O'Brien will not be afraid to call out bad actors in Bosnia and work with those for prosperity!

(Patria) - US Senator Ben Cardin, who is also the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, gave his comments in support of confirming James O'Brien as Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia.

According to him, this position requires someone to lead the diplomatic efforts of the American people to confront Russia's aggression, because, according to him, if Ukraine loses, Moldova and Georgia will follow.

“Ambassador O’Brien had an impressive hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He presented a compelling vision for how he will lead the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. He highlighted the importance of American leadership for the integration of Ukraine, as well as the South Caucasus and the Western Balkans into transatlantic economic and political structures,” said Cardin, Koha reports.

Among the reasons why O'Brien should be in charge of this function, Cardin also cited a potential conflict that could erupt in Kosovo.

“Having served as Principal Deputy Director of Policy Planning and as the President’s Envoy for the Balkans, he will be ready in case a conflict erupts again in Kosovo. He will not be afraid to call out bad actors in Bosnia and work with those who defend peace, transparency, and prosperity,” said Cardin.

Cardin further said that O'Brien was part of the initiative to investigate and prosecute those responsible for war crimes and that he had received numerous awards from the State Department.

“He is an experienced professional ready to take on this high-profile challenge. This sends a signal that the United States cares about what is happening in Europe. And right now, we need to show our determination,” emphasized Cardin.

The US Senate supported the appointment of James O'Brien as Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia.

67 senators voted in favor of his appointment to this position, and 31 against.
