US Senate did not support draft law on aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan

(Patria) - The draft law on providing aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan did not pass the procedural vote in the US Senate.

At least 60 votes (out of 100) were needed for the proposal to pass. 49 senators voted for the draft law.

US President Joe Biden requested nearly 105 billion US dollars from the US Congress on Friday, October 20, to fund aid to Ukraine, Israel, and US border security.

The largest component of the package, more than 61 billion US dollars, was for Ukraine.

Biden also called for an additional 14.3 billion dollars for Israel, another two billion for Taiwan and Indo-Pacific security, and slightly more than nine billion dollars for humanitarian aid.

The head of the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday that delaying US aid to Kyiv, which is being debated in Congress, would create a "huge risk" of Ukraine losing the war with Russia.

Ukraine launched a major counteroffensive this year but failed to break through Russian defensive lines. Russia is now on the offensive in eastern Ukraine.
