Sejfović faces up to five years in prison for escape from custody

Amel Sejfović is suspected of the criminal offense of escape of a person deprived of liberty, said the spokesperson for the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office, Azra Bavčić, for the Patria agency.

Article 355 of the Criminal Code of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina states that "whoever escapes from a correctional institution or prison by using force or by threatening to directly attack the life or body of another person shall be punished with imprisonment from three months to five years."

We remind you that Sejfović escaped from the KPZ Sarajevo by threatening the guards with a firearm.

The investigation into the escape of detainee Sejfović has been ongoing since he escaped from KPZ Sarajevo on September 3. Sejfović, as established by the investigation so far, had help from inside and accomplices after his escape. Six of them are in custody, three of whom are employees of KPZ Sarajevo. A decision from the court on determining custody is awaited for the arrested Sanjin Borčak, who was bringing food to Sejfović.

Those familiar with the situation state that Sejfović executed a well-planned, "cinematic" escape organizationally, and that this case has exposed all the loopholes in the prison system. No one has yet taken responsibility. The accomplice who was waiting for him on a motorcycle after his escape has not yet been found.

Sejfović hid for eight days and was apprehended in a coordinated operation by police agencies on Monday in the village of Buci near Visoko. He was first taken to the MUP KS and then returned to KPZ Sarajevo, from where he escaped.

The Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office continues the investigation in this case and the prosecution of all persons found to have assisted Sejfović during his escape.

Incidentally, Sejfović has been in custody since February 2016 and is on trial with his accomplices for the robbery of a bank in Ilidža on November 5, 2015, during which more than 300,000 KM were stolen and have never been found.

In addition to Sejfović, Arif Hajradinović, Alma Sejfović, Nizama Beširević, Haris Hajrović, Goran Šakota, Samir Baltić, Jasmin Ibišević, and Tarik Zećirović are also charged. They are accused of several serious criminal offenses: robbery, attempted murder, serious criminal offenses against public safety of people and property, preparation of a criminal offense, and aiding an offender after the commission of a criminal offense.
