Head of Trump's staff diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer

(Patria) - White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles has breast cancer, but will remain in her post while undergoing treatment, US President Donald Trump announced today.

"Susie Wiles is an incredible chief of staff, a great person, and one of the strongest people I know.

But unfortunately, she was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer and decided to tackle this challenge head-on, rather than wait," Trump wrote on social media.

Trump added that the prognosis is positive, MS Now reports.

The news was announced just before a meeting with members of the Kennedy Center's board of directors to discuss his plan to close the institution for two years for renovations.

Wiles sat next to him wearing a pink blazer, a color associated with breast cancer awareness.

Wiles has held this position since Trump returned to office in January 2025, after leading his 2024 election campaign.

Before that, she was the executive director of Trump's political action committee, Save America PAC, founded in 2020.

She also worked on the Republican campaigns of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Senator Rick Scott.

Wiles spoke openly in interviews for Vanity Fair published in December, admitting that she disagreed with many of Trump's decisions, including imposing tariffs, seeking retribution against political opponents, and pardoning violent participants in the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack.

She also described the president as someone who "has the personality of an alcoholic."

Despite the controversy surrounding that article, Trump and members of his administration defended Wiles.

US Vice President JD Vance, whom Wiles called "a conspiracy theorist for a decade" in an interview, said the remarks were a joke among friends. Wiles, in turn, called the articles an "attack piece."
