US Intelligence Chief Tulsi Gabbard Resigns

(Patria) - Tulsi Gabbard has resigned from her position as Director of National Intelligence after a year and a half in office.

According to earlier reports by American media, Gabbard was under significant pressure within the Trump administration. Her resignation comes after a period in which she was reportedly largely excluded from key national security operations, including activities in Venezuela and Iran.

She informed her associates that she is leaving due to the serious health condition of her husband, who has been diagnosed with a severe form of cancer. Gabbard has been married to Abraham Williams since 2015.

CBS News reported that during a meeting in the Oval Office, Gabbard told Trump she was leaving his cabinet, and her last day of work is expected to be June 30.

Fox News published her official resignation letter in which she stated:

- I am deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me and for the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence for the past year and a half. Unfortunately, I must submit my resignation, effective June 30, 2026. My husband Abraham was recently diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer.

She added that her husband is going through difficult health challenges in the coming period.

- At this time, I must step down from public service to be by his side and provide him with full support in this fight - she stated.

- Abraham has been my rock throughout our eleven years of marriage. He stood firmly by me during my deployment to East Africa as part of a joint special operations mission, during multiple political campaigns, and now during my service in this role. His strength and love have helped me endure every challenge. I cannot, in good conscience, ask him to go through this fight alone while I continue to perform this demanding and time-consuming function.

I am also fully committed to ensuring a smooth and thorough transition in the coming weeks so that you and your team do not experience any interruption in work and leadership - she conveyed.

During her tenure as head of the intelligence community, Gabbard initiated a reorganization of the services, including cost reductions and, as stated, annual savings of hundreds of millions of dollars.

She also declassified more than half a million pages of government documents, including materials related to investigations into Trump and Russia, and the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy.

She also established a special task force to analyze the alleged political use of state institutions.

It is also stated that the National Counterterrorism Center, under her leadership, prevented the entry of more than 10,000 individuals linked to narco-terrorism in 2025 and placed more than 85,000 individuals on a watch list.
