Sefić could face up to three years in prison just for fleeing the scene

Sanjin Sefić killed two girls in Sarajevo on Monday after hitting them at high speed with his vehicle. Sefić then fled the scene of the accident, and several hours later left Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was arrested two days later in Serbia. His lawyer Dejan Koprić told reporters that Sefić surrendered to the Serbian police and that he is deeply affected by everything. He regrets it. He is now in prison in Serbia, awaiting extradition to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The entire procedure could take more than a month.

It is already foreseeable that the indictment will charge Sefić with several serious criminal offenses. Just for fleeing the scene, he could face up to three years in prison.

The Criminal Code of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Article 337, paragraph 2, states that a driver of a motor vehicle or other means of transport who leaves without assistance a person who is seriously injured by that means of transport, or whose injury he caused, or if death occurred, shall be punished by imprisonment from three months to three years, Patria reports.
