(Patria) - Israeli War Cabinet Chief Benny Gantz has kept his promise and resigned.
- Leaving the government is a complex and painful decision - Gantz said in a televised address.
At a press conference, he called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to set an election date and not allow the nation to disintegrate, Haaretz reports.
His resignation is a blow to the Israeli prime minister, who faces increasing pressure to end the conflict in Gaza, CNN reports.
Last month, Gantz informed Netanyahu that if a clear strategy for the Gaza Strip after the war was not presented by June 8, he would resign.
Netanyahu also faces growing internal political pressure from the far-right in the country, while the US and some Israelis are urging him to accept a ceasefire agreement with Hamas.
