Sedrenik: Fun for the Youngest at the Children's Playground

A fun event for the children of the Sedrenik settlement was organized today at the newly built children's playground. Around a hundred children enjoyed songs and games with an animator, followed by balloon animal making and face painting. Schoolchildren from the main and branch elementary school “Mula Mustafa Bašeskija“ participated in an art workshop, and at the end, prizes were awarded to the best participants. Other workshop participants were also rewarded for their efforts, and all children enjoyed sweets and juices, reports the Patria agency.

The children's fun event in Sedrenik was attended by the Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, the President of the Municipal Council Jusuf Pušina, and the Deputy President Irfan Čengić, who gifted the children balls for playing.

The playground in Sedrenik was built on the initiative of citizens who participated in the project „Strengthening the Role of Local Communities in BiH“, a joint project of the Governments of Switzerland and Sweden worth 14.5 million KM, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The project aims to increase the democratic and direct participation of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina in local governance, strengthen the accountability of municipal authorities, and improve infrastructure and services at the local community level.

Citizens of Sedrenik also participated in organizing today's children's event, which is a good example of cooperation between citizens and the local community for mutual benefit, which is ultimately the goal of this project. As good hosts, the citizens of Sedrenik also treated the attendees with cakes today.

The playground covers an area of 54m2 and has a combined rubber and sand surface. The children have a slide with a wooden house, a swing with two seats combined with a climbing frame with ladders and a climbing net, a metal seesaw for two people, a merry-go-round, benches, and waste bins have also been installed.

Within the project „Strengthening the Role of Local Communities in BiH“, a children's playground was also built in the Mošćanica local community, which was opened last week, also with entertainment for the children of that local area. The council of the Mošćanica local community then made a maximum contribution to the organization by engaging sponsors and informing citizens.
