Seven children died in a fire that broke out this morning in a building in Brooklyn, the New York Fire Department announced, reports the Patria News Agency.
Two people were injured in the fire and their condition is critical, said fire department spokesman Jim Long.
The youngest child was five and the oldest was 15, and it is believed they were all members of one family. Neighbors stated that the mother and her eight children were trapped in the flames.
The mother and the only surviving child were transferred to the hospital in critical condition.
More than 100 firefighters extinguished the fire, which has now been contained. The cause of the fire is unknown.
