SDP: Assembly must prevent fraud against police officers in Sarajevo Canton

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - In an effort to prevent discrimination against police officers in Sarajevo Canton (SC) and further politicisation of the police, MP Segmedina Srna-Bajramović, on behalf of the Social Democratic Party of BiH, submitted amendments to the proposed Law on Police Officers of Sarajevo Canton, the party announced.

- Our intention was to ensure that police officers in SC have the same retirement conditions as their colleagues from the Federation of BiH Ministry of Interior. Also, we wanted to provide educated young cadres with a chance to get a job in the SC Ministry of Interior.

The SC Government rejected all proposed amendments, offering nebulous and illogical explanations.

From what the Government announced, it is clear that the SDA-led authorities knowingly deceived police officers when adopting the new Law on Pension and Disability Insurance, because the provisions on police retirement apply only to members of the federal Ministry of Interior, not the cantonal one.

Also, it is now completely clear how this government wants at all costs to continue control over employment in the police, so that only suitable and obedient individuals can work there.

We will not give up on the amendments and we hereby call on the SC Assembly to prevent a new fraud against police officers with its support, and to stop political control over the employment process in the SC Ministry of Interior - SDP said.
