SDP: Absolutely do not give up on NATO membership

(Patria) - On the occasion of information that an initiative could follow for Bosnia and Herzegovina to regulate the issue of cooperation with NATO, following Serbia's example, instead of the Action Plan for NATO membership (MAP), the Social Democratic Party of BiH expresses its strong opposition and calls on all parties to declare themselves in the same way regarding this attempt to stop our country's NATO path.

"We remind you that any abandonment of the activation of the MAP before the government is formed is a disservice to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and at the same time a great reward for Milorad Dodik and SNSD. We doubt that any of the political parties that consider themselves patriotic would agree to such a thing, but we are obliged to warn about the catastrophic consequences, even of thinking in this direction.
Attempts to deceive that MAP is the same as IPAP lead Bosnia and Herzegovina in the direction of becoming a colony of neighboring Serbia, which will decide what our country's foreign policy priorities are, even though there is a clear and unified stance of the Presidency of BiH on this matter, which states that these are the European Union, NATO, and regional cooperation.

As an opposition party, SDP BiH will strongly advocate for NATO and EU integration and the continuation of partnership with the United States of America and the countries of the European Union, in order to achieve the foreign policy priorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina," said the SDP.

On the other hand, they will insist on the consistent application of adopted laws, in this case the Law on Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which obliges the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Presidency of BiH, and all defense entities to implement all necessary activities for the admission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to NATO membership within their own constitutional and legal jurisdiction.

"Nothing else is an option for SDP BiH, and we call on the parties forming the government to do so as soon as possible, but absolutely not by trading NATO membership," added the SDP.
