The Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in light of current developments regarding the activities of the Court and Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina in detecting and prosecuting the case of obstruction of justice in the “Keljmendi” case, as well as other activities of the competent judicial authorities in the fight against corruption and organized crime throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, gives its open, unconditional and constant support to such activities, reports the Patria news agency.
- We believe that all actors in the political processes in our country should give their clear and sincere public support to such efforts, because the judicial authorities of this state are the only ones responsible and authorized to ensure that all people are equal before the law. Regardless of their political affiliation, material status, origin or social influence. Only then will Bosnia and Herzegovina become a state of justice and equality, which is the minimum of what citizens expect from the institutions of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At the same time, we condemn any attempts at intimidation, threats, stigmatization of anyone from the judicial community because such activities are at least unacceptable in a democratic order, and even criminal, and punishable by law.
An independent, professional and decisive judiciary is what we as a political party have always advocated for and we will remain persistent in those efforts, because only then can we restore citizens' trust in the institutions of the rule of law. We call on all political forces to rise above anyone's interests and put the interest of justice first. We, as a responsible party founded on European values, will always be against all attacks on the judiciary of this state, because the alternative to that is anarchy, selective enforcement of the law and absolute legal uncertainty for the citizens of our homeland.
The judicial institutions of the state of BiH at this moment have a special significance for the future of BiH because attempts are being made to dispossess them, belittle them and even abolish them. Regardless of the fact that there are certainly cadres in the judiciary who are under direct political control and influence, these problems cannot be solved by political pressure and media harangue on judicial institutions, but exclusively through reforms and depoliticization of the judiciary through structural dialogue, which the current government has turned into a process of undermining the Court of BiH - states the SDP statement.
