SDA condemns the vandalistic attack on Alija Izetbegović's grave

The Party of Democratic Action (SDA) most strongly condemns the vandalistic act of desecrating the grave of the first president of the Presidency of the independent Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Alija Izetbegović, it was announced today from this party, reports the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

As reported by the media, a person with the initials A. N. (38) was arrested on suspicion of desecrating the tombstone, confirmed by the police. Allegedly, he carved the word "kašikara" (a type of spoon, also slang for a small caliber firearm) on Izetbegović's tombstone with a knife. It is suspected that the person is a drug addict.

- We demand that the competent institutions urgently sanction the perpetrator of this vandalistic act, as well as establish responsibility of those who were obliged to secure and protect Alija Izetbegović's grave. We are appalled by the fact that those who were obliged to secure Alija Izetbegović's grave did not learn lessons after the terrorist attack that occurred on August 11, 2006, when the grave of the first president of RBiH was mined - it was stated.

SDA expects the competent authorities to take all necessary measures to prevent such an incident from happening again, reports NAP.
