(Patria) - Countries supporting Ukraine will use windfall profits from frozen Russian assets to finance the purchase of weapons for Kyiv.
This was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, after a meeting with the leaders of France and Poland, Emmanuel Macron and Donald Tusk.
At a joint press conference in Berlin, the three reiterated their support for Ukraine, whose troops are facing the toughest battles since the first days of the war with Russia due to a lack of ammunition.
Scholz said the leaders agreed on the need to procure more weapons for Ukraine on the global market, as well as to increase the production of military equipment, including cooperation with partners in Ukraine.
- We will use the windfall revenue from Russian assets frozen in Europe to financially support the purchase of weapons for Ukraine - the German Chancellor said.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen last month called on the EU to consider using such profits for joint purchases of military equipment for Ukraine.
The European Commission is expected to present a concrete proposal in the coming days.
