Schmidt visited Reis Kavazović: Marking places where Bosniaks were imprisoned or killed

The Rais al-ulama of the Islamic Community (IZ) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Husein-ef. Kavazović, was visited today in his office in Kovači by the High Representative of the international community in our country, Christian Schmidt.

The two interlocutors had an in-depth discussion about the memorialization of locations where genocide was committed, the needs of Bosniak returnees in the RS, and the overall role of religious communities and their contribution to de-escalating tensions and promoting cooperation in BiH.

The High Representative emphasized that places where Bosniaks were imprisoned or executed during the Srebrenica genocide in 1995 should be marked for future generations.

"Confronting the past and remembering the victims are key to reconciliation," emphasized Schmidt, adding that "the OHR is ready to become more deeply involved in this issue."
