White House Advisor: Military aid package will reach Ukraine

(Patria) - White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said during a visit to Kyiv that a large US aid package, blocked for months by Republicans, will reach Ukraine, promising that Washington's support will continue.

Vital US aid to Ukraine has been stalled in Congress since the end of last year.

- From our perspective, we are confident that we will do it. This aid will reach Ukraine - Sullivan said at a joint press conference after a meeting with the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andriy Yermak.

Sullivan did not specify a timeline but said there was no need to discuss a "Plan B".

- I am confident that we will achieve "Plan A". We will get strong bipartisan support in the House of Representatives for the aid package for Ukraine - Sullivan said, adding that the process has been going on for too long.

Yermak said they discussed Ukraine's current needs on the battlefield, the NATO summit in Washington in July, and the peace summit in Switzerland that Kyiv wants to hold this spring.

Ukraine does not plan to invite Russia to that summit.

Yermak said he believes that China, whose envoy visited European capitals this month, including Kyiv and Moscow, could participate in the summit.

China is a key ally of Russia with which it has strong economic ties. Its participation in the summit would be considered a major diplomatic victory for Ukraine, Reuters assesses.
