(Patria) - Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman yesterday called on Israel to refrain from attacking Iranian territory.
Bin Salman, who is the de facto leader of the country, said at yesterday's summit of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Riyadh that Iran is a "sister country".
This is a sign of warming relations between the two Middle Eastern powers that have long supported opposing sides in the region, particularly in Syria and Yemen.
Israel is at war with the Palestinian Hamas in the Gaza Strip and with Hezbollah in Lebanon, two movements allied with Iran and a major enemy of Israel.
In October, Israel bombed military facilities in Iran in retaliation for Iran's missile attack on Israel on October 1.
Tehran said its attacks were a response to the killing of Hezbollah and Hamas leaders, which it attributed to Israel.
Israel has warned Iran against any new attack, while Tehran has promised a strong response.
Iran and Saudi Arabia re-established diplomatic relations in March 2023, based on an agreement reached under China's auspices, after a seven-year break.
In October, Saudi Arabia announced that it had conducted joint military exercises with the naval forces of Iran and other countries on the shores of the Sea of Oman.
