Saudi Arabia warns Iran that 'patience is running out'

(Patria) - Saudi Arabia has warned that it is still considering the option of a military response against Iran due to recent attacks on Aramco oil facilities.

The warning came from Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir, who also said he expects a UN report on the origin of the attacks, and that the EU's statement attributing responsibility to Iran is 'very significant'.

Saudi Arabia is still pressuring the US government to consider mobilizing additional troops to defend oil facilities, in addition to the tightened sanctions against Iran announced by Trump on September 14.

Commenting on the situation on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session held in New York, Jubeir also said that Saudi Arabia wants to mobilize 'international support, and consider several options - diplomatic, economic, and military - and then make a decision'. He stressed that Iran must be aware that US patience may soon come to an end.

French President Emmanuel Macron, who took on the role of a mediator between Iran, the EU, and the US before the attacks, stated that he hopes to return to the negotiating table, however, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani denied being willing to withdraw the demand for sanctions relief to resume negotiations.

Let's recall that although the Houthi rebels in Yemen (supported by Iran) claimed responsibility for the attacks, the US and Saudi Arabia blamed Iran, which denies involvement.

The US has publicly stated that it will not take military action in response to the attacks, but has announced support for Saudi Arabia's defense forces, as well as other forms of pressure on Iran, such as already tightened sanctions.

Although he publicly called on other countries to join the US in pressuring Iran, Trump nevertheless suggested that there is a path to peace, writes the British newspaper The Guardian.
