(Patria) - Saudi Arabia on Friday rejected Israel's recognition of Somaliland's independence, condemning what it called a violation of international law, Al Arabiya reported.
Israel became the first country to formally recognize the self-proclaimed Republic of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed this was done "in the spirit of the Abraham Accords".
He added that Tel Aviv would seek cooperation with Somaliland in agriculture, health, technology, and economy.
Saudi Arabia, for its part, expressed full support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Somalia.
Riyadh stated that this move "consolidates unilateral separatist measures that violate international law".
Saudi Arabia affirmed its support for Somalia's legitimate institutions and its desire to preserve Somalia's stability and the security of its citizens.
Earlier this year, media reports suggested that the United States and Israel had contacted Sudan, Somalia, and Somaliland to propose the relocation of Palestinians from Gaza.
