(Patria) - Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed a joint strategic defense agreement on Wednesday during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's visit to Riyadh, Al Arabiya reported.

Sharif met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and signed the Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement, which confirms the deep ties between Islamabad and Riyadh.

"The agreement states that any aggression against either country will be considered an aggression against both," according to a copy of the agreement.

"This agreement, which reflects the joint commitment of both nations to strengthening their security and achieving security and peace in the region and the world, aims to develop aspects of defense cooperation between the two countries and enhance joint deterrence against any aggression," the agreement states.

Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have enjoyed close relations for nearly eight decades.
