Meeting of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and the Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH: Prevent Tax and Customs Evasion

A meeting was held between officials of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and the Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH. The central topics of the meeting concerned joint activities to strengthen tax and fiscal discipline in BiH and the prosecution of criminal offenses related to tax and customs evasion.

Deputy Chief Prosecutor and Head of the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, Ozrenka Nešković, with associates, met with the Director of the Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH, Miro Džakula, as well as officials of the Indirect Taxation Authority (ITA) of BiH, from all levels and all field offices operating throughout BiH.

The meeting discussed joint cooperation in detecting, preventing and prosecuting criminal offenses related to customs and tax evasion within cases being processed before state judicial institutions.

The meeting agreed on further intensive cooperation between the two institutions.

The focus of these institutions is on implementing activities that will strengthen the collection of tax and customs duties in BiH and prevent any kind of illegality, as well as building capacity for the rapid and efficient prosecution of those responsible for criminal offenses in the field of financial crime, as well as processes of freezing and confiscation of property and illegally acquired property benefits, in order to return to the budget and citizens of BiH the funds that were illegally acquired through the commission of criminal offenses.

Prosecution of criminal offenses in the field of financial crime, strengthening fiscal and tax discipline, confiscation of illegally acquired property benefits, are priority activities on Bosnia and Herzegovina's path to European integration.
