Meeting with Hahn: Komšić and Džaferović also for NATO, Dodik only for BiH's EU path

BRUSSELS, (Patria) - BiH Presidency members Željko Komšić, Šefik Džaferović and Milorad Dodik held a meeting with EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn, and will also have a joint dinner with High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, which will also be attended by leaders of the Western Balkan countries.

After the meeting with Hahn, Željko Komšić and Šefik Džaferović addressed the media. Chairman Komšić said that he and Džaferović emphasized that they are for BiH's path to both the EU and NATO, while Milorad Dodik expressed interest only in cooperation on the EU path.

The topic of the meeting also included the non-formation of BiH authorities, the situation in the region, the future of the EU, and other topics.

"Džaferović and I believe that we should strive for both the NATO and EU paths, while Dodik only towards the EU. We told Hahn that the EU's attitude towards North Macedonia and Albania is disappointing, because it is not a good signal for us either. Nevertheless, we reiterated to Hahn that BiH does not have the luxury of giving up on the European path, nor the NATO path. Some other emerging initiatives cannot replace the EU. Cooperation with neighbors is necessary and desirable, and we are always here," said Komšić.

Džaferović stated that the cabinets of the Presidency members are intensively working on a document that could lead to a compromise.

"We do not have an agreement yet, but we will see in the coming days what will follow. We are cooperating with foreign embassies in this regard," he pointed out.

The migrant crisis was also discussed with the European Commissioner. It was emphasized that the eastern border of BiH needs to be protected, and that the EU is ready to help.
