Sarajlić after verdict: Someone wanted to 'archive me', I don't know if I'll return to politics

(Patria) - After the first-instance acquittal verdict at the Municipal Court in Sarajevo, Asim Sarajlić addressed the media saying "let Pedro hang".

"Asim Sarajlić has been hanging for the past couple of years. Is society better with Asim Sarajlić's resignation, is society as a whole better, I assure you it is worse," said Sarajlić.

"Whoever followed the trial could see the testimonies of Mr. Semir Efendić and Mr. Velid Tvrtković and be convinced that the organization was actually on the other side of this entire setup and this entire affair, that Muhamed Šehović was misled only to get to me through Sabahudin Delalić. I was the main target. So, three years ago, I went public and resigned from all positions in the party, followed by what followed, US sanctions, I resigned," he stated.

Sarajlić emphasized that for three years, since the process began, he has not said a single word about this case in the media.

"Are there perhaps some better, good guys on the political scene? Is society as a whole better? I assure you it is worse, and what is happening today with trading mandates and signatures and job appointments at the state and other levels is much more dramatic. Who is finishing hands today, who is appointing suitable people to positions, who is filling offices today, Asim has not been in that space for three years," he said, adding that he believes he and his colleagues conducted themselves honorably in this process.

When asked if he would return to politics, he replied that he does not know yet.

"US sanctions remain, which are very serious, the US is the only strategic partner of BiH on its Euro-Atlantic path," he added, thanking his family, party, and Bakir Izetbegović.

He said that someone clearly wanted to "archive Asim Sarajlić, perhaps because of what is happening in society today."

The KS Prosecutor's Office announced today that after receiving the written copy of the verdict, they will file an appeal against the acquittal.
